I wouldn’t. Miracle Grow is salt based and most plants do not like salt. And in a hydro system, you will have evaporation which will increase the salt levels over time. Unless you want to do a complete water change all the time to keep the salt levels down.

I’d go with something like deodorized fish oil (still a little stinky) or seaweed extract. And I’m sure they make stuff just for hyrodponic gardening. Another idea is to make compost tea and add that. Just take an old t-shirt or a piece of cheesecloth, bundle up some compost and tie the “package” shut. Put the package in a bucket of water and let it sit at least overnight, 24 hours is better. The water will leech out the nutrients in the compost. I make compost tea for my outside plants and alternate between using that with the fish oil.

Sure you can, just be sure to use the diluted mixture according to the package directions (safe to use every time you water your houseplants) 1 tsp (small side of scoop) per gallon of water, add that mix to your hydro system. Worked in my Aerogarden just dandy.

Miracle grow, rapid grow, peters and a few others will be fine. The container should say “water soluble”. This just means it breaks down and mixes with water. It should also say if there are trace elements in the mixture. Use the one with the trace elements. You can pump out the system and add fresh water. after a day or so when it discolors, this way you prevent fertilizer salts from building up.

How can i make my own hydroponic nutrient solution?

Perhaps you could try fertilizer that is used for aquarium plants. You can get fertilizer like this in the better aquarium stores. Before using this on food-item-plants I would write to the manufacturers asking for the safety of this fertilizer.

I have 5 fish tanks and all are heavily planted. The fish are healthy and are growing…some of them are a few years old.
