Put some coal in the trays.
This will also filter the water and keep it a bit cleaner

Mix baking soda and vinegar (the old volcano trick). The gas generated is CO2

Be careful with baking soda and vinegar. Baking soda raises PH and vinegar lowers it. Tomatoes thrive in a PH environment of 5.8 to 6.3.
