A Venus Flytrap “is” a hydroponic plant. They grow in wet areas lacking nutrients, hence their need to get nutrients from trapping insects. If you grow them hydro you must not add any nutrients to the water. If you do, it will burn the roots and the plant will die. You can leave the soil on in this one instance. Other insectivores might work in the same set-up. RScott

FloraNova has two main products: FloraNova Grow and FloraNova Bloom. Both these nutrient solutions are organic compounds, thus bringing a natural approach to hydroponic gardening. Both these solutions are suitable for all types of plants.

The primary constituents of most nutrient mixtures are phosphorous, nitrogen, and potassium. Other components include vitamins, hormones, and inorganic materials like minerals.

good luck with the plant – hope it flourishes.

Hydroponic growing tomatoes?

Question by pompanojack: Hydroponic growing tomatoes?
When starting tomato plants from seed, at what point are they ready to place in the container they will be grown in? Must the roots have become long enough to reach the bottom of the container?

Best answers:

Answer by endless_cash
Assuming that you are using an ebb and flow system, the roots need to be long enough to touch nutrients during flow (when the tray is full). The roots do not have to be touching the bottom of the tray.
